There will not be a Worlds Speak Freely meeting on Wednesday, October 31st due to Halloween. The officers are currently discussing whether or not we will hold a Trick-or-Treat event in Center City, instead.
Trick-or-Treat is a North American Halloween tradition, where people go door-to-door in order to ask for candy, or other treats dependent on the house. While wearing a Halloween costume, you knock on a door or ring a doorbell, and ask the person who opens the door, “trick or treat?”
Then, the person will give you candy or something else (one year, someone gave me soda cans…I’m not even joking – I had to carry those heavy soda cans with me the whole night).
It’s a fun, light-hearted, social event that would let club members experience American culture, see the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Center City, get FREE candy/treats, and get to know one another as club members.
If you are STRONGLY committed to a Trick-or-Treat event (keeping in mind that this would have to happen sometime after 5PM, and not 7PM), then email the WSF officers at firstname.lastname@example.org or post on our Facebook group.
Otherwise, there will not be a WSF meeting at all on 10/31.
Oh, and I’d like to give a very warm welcome to our new Treasurer, Anna Hlinkova! Congratulations. We are very glad to have her join the WSF Officer Team. I will allow her to introduce herself at one of our future meetings, since my post here has gone on long enough. 🙂
